Dominic Restuccia has filed to run for the open 50th district for the Michigan House of Representatives; that seat is currently held by Republican state Rep. Bob Bezotte, who is not running for re-election.
Restuccia — a Hillsdale College graduate, former congressional staffer, and local Realtor — will be facing Jason Woolford of Marion Township in the Aug. 4 Republican primary. Democrat Austin Breuer of Howell is also running for the seat.
The 50th House District includes the city of Howell and the village of Fowlerville, plus the townships of Cohoctah, Conway, Deerfield, Handy, Hartland, Howell, Iosco, Marion, Oceola, Unadilla, southern Tyrone Township, and the north and west parts of Putnam Township.
“One thing that is clear to me is that we need a conservative fighter representing Livingston County. With housing prices, interest rates, energy bills, and grocery costs at record highs, I will fight to make Michigan affordable again for all of us,” Restuccia said in a release. “Lansing politicians are trying to tax, spend, and mandate their way out of this, but I will fight tax increases, cut spending, and take on government bureaucracy and red tape getting in the way of the American dream.”
Restuccia said he will also protect parental rights in education, back law enforcement, support family-owned and local businesses, and help unleash the American dream for the next generation.
“I want my daughters to experience an even better Michigan than the one I grew up in,” he said. “Michigan deserves public policy that makes this the best place to live, work, and raise a family. That means good schools, safe communities, and strong family values.”
With experience in both government and business, Restuccia said he understands the challenges facing the county, state, and country from both the private and public sector perspective. A former congressional staffer, Restuccia worked on agriculture, education, and national defense policy for local U.S. Rep. Mike Bishop, who represented Livingston County as part of the 7th District, as well as the military legislative assistant to U.S. Sen. Mike Lee of Utah. After starting his first small business at the age of 14, Restuccia followed in the steps of his mother and grandparents as a third-generation Realtor.
“The American ideals of personal responsibility, limited government, and the rule of law are the bedrock of our national identity,” he said. “These ideals are neither Democrat nor Republican, but American. As your representative, I will champion these ideals and fight to restore these American values.”
Restuccia lives in Howell with his wife, Emma, and their daughters, Leona and Edith.
